Uberoo
I would like to install some gauges in my 89 justy RS.First order of business is an oil pressure gauge so I might be able to stop the engine from failing from a lack of oil pressure. The other gauge I want to install is a temp gauge because I dont trust the gauge in the cluster. The temp gauge right now will only go about 1/5 up the temp gauge-then never move.not even up really steep hills in 100*F temp. :-\ . so yea an oil pressure gauge to hopefully prevent engine failure, and a temp gauge to make sure im not running too hot. just now I dont know where I can place the sensors.I would like the oil pressure in a predrilled hole if posible and I would like the temp gauge to have a direct METAL connection to the engine. thanks in advance. zyewdall
Well.... I don't have much to offer yet, but I am planning on doing the same thing... Mine doesn't have an oil pressure guage either, and with the sensitivity of these engines to that....I think it would be good. And my temperature guage never gets above barely above the cold line -- I'd think it was not connected at all, except it does move maybe an 1/8th of an inch when hot (and yes, the engine does get up to normal temp, or at least enough to turn on the radiator fan and blow nice hot air out of the heater). I ordered a new temperature sending unit for it... $75 from the dealer Is yours fuel injected? If so, it looks like there are three temperature sensors on the right side of the intake manifold as you look at the engine from the front of the car -- one for the computer, one for the fan, and one for the guage. I have no idea where to tap into the oil pressure... the oil filter is on the back of the engine under the intake manifold.... nuts. On temperature guages, I have JB welded temperature sensors to the engine block before... not the same thing you are measuring as when you get into the coolant stream, but I figure it's still useful, and you can learn what is normal and what is not. Uberoo
It is carbed...I am reallly scared that the new engine is gonna fail because strange noises comes from what sounds to be in the front(while driving it),but then again the muffler is SHOT.The metal in muffler has delaminated so it rattles a fair bit, either way monday im gonna get the muffler replaced. It shouldnt be much because I found an old sevrice record for a lifetime warrenty muffler... British Standard Pipe Thread. More than likely you'll be going from 1/8 NPT with any aftermarket gauge to the 1/8 BSPT male fitting that screws into the block, replacing the factory sending unit. That fitting can be bought on ebay and major speed shops. I got one in a cheap gauge set from WallMart one time. I bought it just for the fitting and tossed the gauge. It was much cheaper than the $15 to $20 I've paid on line for just the fitting. Doug
