soobdr
Hi all. I used to frequent this place, and moved on. I now have a 1987 subaru d/r. I saw a photo of a broken rear end in a sube here, quite a while ago. the tube that holds the swings arms, struts, axles, front of rear gears... I have recently broken the same part. I have a jack holding the camber and last shreds of integrity into normal position and may weld on the spot (in my apt parking lot) Are these parts weldable? The tube seems flaky and non grained, more like a cast type metal. I am a bit nervous about this, the car has taken many many of my hours to get beyond oem with repairs and customizations and now this. I would even change the whole thing over to another tube if one was around... Any ideas form someone who has dealt with this would be appreciated. my idea as of now is cutting an exhaust pipe in two, and have it tightly fit to injury, then weld to where weldable is good. A straight piece would cover the injury, it is not in the curve of tube. would this work? it is not completely broken but oh so close. I do not risk a trip to a relatives garage. And that brings another q. Can I strap it all together for a one time trip with some steel rod? The car moves and turns, camber is real bad to look at, tire leaning way in towards the well, but drivable.
Loyale 2.7 Turbo
I Think it will be Easier to Help you Knowing more about what Subie Model is it. For Now, I Think that a Weld can Hold Enough for Short Trips, Because Welded Parts are Less Strong to Hold Real Stress, it Depends on the Parts Involved... so if you can Remove the Broken Part and Change it Soon, it will be Safer to Drive. Could you Post Pics? Good Luck!
