wiring 6" Hella 500s to my Rack (Wire running Question)

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I bought a pair a 6" Hella 500 lights last weekend to hook up to my Rack basket. The onlything I can't seem to figure out is how to run the wires from the lights into the Cab? I don't want to drill a hole in the roof and use a rubber gorment (Spelling) or rubber based sealer. Someone told me once that you can run the wires under the Rack basket arm and down into the gutter and then into the cab, But I can't find out how? Once I get the wires into the vehicle I'll be fine.

Any one know how to run the wires into the cab?

PS: I did a search and alll the theard I saw, ppl were talking about drilling a hole in the roof (Which I DO NOT want to do)

Thanks for any help!:)

wires all wrapped up and not one hole drilled. zip ties are your friend.

Just went out and looked at the gutters on the EA82, and I don't think that'll work? Cause the plastic molding gets closer to the body the farther down you go to almost where you can't get a single wire in there.

Does anyone have pics of this idea like (Jonas) had but done to an EA82?

mine does the same thing. runs closer to the body the farther down it goes. i only used the wire casing about half way down the gutter.

you should be able to use a flat head screwdriver to push the wires in along the tight part of the gutter. it's just a lip and should open up once you get past the tight part. at least on my EA81 wagon it's like that. don't see yours being much different.

just saw your pic. a screwdriver should work fine. like i said, it should open up once it gets past the tight part.

look down by where the gutter ends at the door/fender. you should be able to feel w/your finger if it is hollow.

*FREE TIP*

if your's is an aftermarket rack, use male/female connectors to the power and ground wires in the area i circled. you cant see mine because of the wire casing.

that way if you need to remove your rack for any reason (selling car and want to keep rack, or waxing, for example) you can easily unclip at that point, leaving the lights wired up, connected to the rack. no cutting of wires, no muss, no fuss!
