i apolozige if this is a repeat question i searched but found nothing

thanks spokane soob

Because of the design of the front pinion shaft the gears have to stay with the centre diff... You might however be able to replace all the synchros with ones from any old 5sp EA82 box...? Not sure on that though.

That was my though. Split the case, replace the synchros and the shaft bearings. I did this recently in an outback and man oh man the shifting is WAY better.

The synchros from any old regular 4wd EA 5 spd box should work. If not, then the stuff from an EJ box will work. But IIRC, they are ALL the same with regards to the gears.

try some new gear oil with a little (1/2 quart) Rislone Engine Treatment (yes, in the trans) in it. that'll help clean/smooth things out quite a bit.

if that doesn't solve the problem, go for the pricier Scotty's Cocktail.

if you can live without the low range. I believe (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) turbo GLs got a single-range FT4WD tranny that would still use the 3.7 axle ratio (match your rear LSD), have 25-spline axles (match your axles), and have the center diff lock.

Most Turbo GLs with Fulltime would have been D/R. (basically an RX without the styling package) It was the XT that got the S/R Fulltime boxes.

If the Rislone doesnt work, its not worth the money trying the cocktail. The tranny is to fubared (but not beyond repair).

In 88 the GL-10 Turbo Wagon had 5spd FT S/R with LSD. Pretty sure it had diff lock.

Basically the same tranny in the XT6 5spd FT.

yea, sorry. that wasn't very clear. scotty's cocktail is better than rislone, so if it isn't perfect with rislone, switch. but if it's still pretty bad, don't bother.

I thought there were some S/R FT4WD GLs. the XT6s with that drivetrain have 3.9:1 diffs though.

Just get a 5sp EJ box with a custom crossmember and a longer tailshaft. Better AWD system anywho. Oh, I guess you've got the problem of having to have a EJ engine as well then... Oh well, things you have to live with.
