ECU? Help.

Recommended Posts

Need help. 91 Loyale ea82. The car will crank, but Its not getting any spark or fuel. Also, the dummy lights on the dash arn't coming on when the key is in the run position, neither is the light on the ecu. I have checked all the fuses and they all seem to be ok. The junkyard up the road has one out of a 92 but they want $100 for it, and they guy up there is saying it won't work because its out of a 2wd and I have a 4wd. Anyway, I thought I would get a few opinions on what my issue might be. Am I right in thinking that the ecu just crapped out? Thanks

don't throw that much money away for two reasons:

1. there's a good chance this isn't an ECU.

2. you can find an ECU much cheaper than that - $50 tops. someone on here probably has one, just post in the parts wanted forum.

what happened...did it run fine then just not start one day?

have you checked the fuses?

have you checked fusible links?

battery?

ignition switch?

have you had any ignition, starting, electrical or other problems? the more info we have the more we can help, hopefully it's just something simple. give us as much specific info you can.

You probably blew a fusable link. It sounds like you are not getting any power to the ignition and that has nothing to do with the ECU. The fusable links are in the engine compartment right behind the battery on the front of the strut tower. There is a black box open it up and you will find the links. Check them all.

Ok. The car was running fine this morning on the way to work. As I pulled into the parking lot it just died. Timing belts was my first thought, so I checked them out, they are just fine. I run no covers on the belts. There hasn't been any electical grmlins before this. I was messing with it a few minutes ago, and found a popped fuse labled "meter engine" in the fuse block. I replaced it with a good one with the ecu unhooked and it popped, leading me to think that the ecu is ok. Also there aren't any dummy lights lit up with the key in the on position. I have checked the fused links and they all check out ok. I am starting to think it might be a bad wire.
