awesome, looking forward to seeing/hearing how it goes for you.

i forget what EA82 you have - but if it's a carbed i'd definitely look to upgrade the fuel pump as well.

did you get the ECU and trans as well or do you have other plans for those?

someone mentioned they are interference engines, if so then i'd inspect/replace any timing pulleys and replace the belt.

good luck, keep us updated!

Thanks for all your help, it’s a Carb’d EA82 so I bought a fuel pump to, which brings me to another question the engine has 2 inlets and 1 return fuel pipes right, if so then I suppose 1 inlet goes to the pump since the pump has only 1 port and the other return. Where does the other inlet pipe go? Hope I make sense hehe

I got an ECU, Harness, Airflow and O2 Sensor, and then another question my exhaust system has 2 holes one for the 02 sensor and the other is?

I’m using the stock EA82 Trans later on ill change to Ej Trans. I’m not using front wheel drive imp using rear wheel, meaning I removed the front drive shafts, actually they broke and can’t find originals so may be later I might replace them but I really enjoy the rear wheel much better grip.

So basically the progress for today was that i went to the engineers to get the adapter plate done will get it by tomorrow, the intercooler ports were blocked i got them opened and the intercooler is from a twin turbo so i will have to modify the piping

Anything else you think I should look into?

Once again thanks for all your help.

the only EA82's i've worked on had 3 fuel lines just like the EJ stuff so those are easy, not sure what to tell you about yours. i know nothing about carbs, except i don't like them.

two holes in the exhaust? they're probably both O2 sensors. most (all?) EJ's have two O2 sensors, one front and one rear.

well the only EJ's that have 2 O2 sensors are OBDII engines.

since this engine is OBDI it dose not have a post cat O2. one bung is for the O2 sensor, and the other bung is for an EGT sensor.

or at least thats how it works on both the EJ20s i have done...

EGT - Exhaust Gas Temperature sensor? That's not necessary but you could probably fit an aftermarket one in the hole - might require one adapter or not, but i would think that would be a good option. Aftermarket stuff should be easily found there (like i know nairobi!!)?

Lol ok ill look into that, getting parts here is not so easy and if you find what you’re looking for it’s going to be expensive.

I managed to put in the motor and the gearbox only 1 prob, the motor doesn’t sit on the crossmember because of the turbo pipe so I need to cut the crossmember tomorrow.

I find the space between the turbo pipe and the steering rack very limited do you think I’ll have to modify or it will fit in well?

Thanks i cut the crossmember it fitted in well.

I have another major major prob the wiring. If you can check out the pics at http://www.photobucket.com/amksti and tell me if that’s the correct ECU for the engine I have and if not which is the correct ECU? How many sockets, model number? What color are the sockets? Can I get the wiring diagrams for it to? (The motor is an EJ20 single turbo that’s all I know, don’t know if it’s a EJ20G or EJ20K…)

was that an automatic engine? from what i could see its either a ej20k or G. if it was auto it was down 20-30hp from normal. 280ps on a ej20r which is stick becomes 260ps in auto which became a ej20h.

also if it has plugs in the now drivers side head that tap into the oil and coolant, one of which is all the way on the front, its a 20K. they used 20R's heads since they were big valve/ports. all other heads are just casted for the spots.

if it did say T-5 on your ECU it was an auto and it made probably about 250ps, maybe less.

I went out to look for the correct ECU, i found an engine exactly like mine using a V9 ECU, was told the ECU i was given was for a twin turbo, can i get the wiring diagram for the V9 type Ecu? and what is the normal ECU model used in these types of engines?

is it V9 or Y9? cause Y9 is still twin turbo. also W9 which is 1994 wrx-RA(11.47psi). V9 is all wrx wagons 10psi dropping to 6.8

  • 2 weeks later...

turbo fuel tank.... You are gonna want a tank with baffles in it. your Carb'd EA82 tank doesnt have any baffles

As far as the crossmember goes, heat it up with a rose bud torch and smash the hell out of it. its decent steel it will bend to make room
