dmeucci
I have not checked the codes but the check engine light has been on and off for sometime now since I last California smogged it within the year. Is it possible to pass smog without an EGR valve? 209K EJ22 5spd man.
idosubaru
Is it possible to pass smog without an EGR valve? it sounds like you already did?: since I last California smogged it all 1995 (well i don't know about CA - i don't keep track of that whack-a-do states laws), anyway in 1995 ALL EJ22 (2.2 liter) subaru's with manual transmissions did not have EGR valves, so i would think that's standard and it should pass just fine. the check engine light has been on and off if it's been "on and off", that's not an EGR code anyway. you need to find out what the code actually is. what makes you think it's EGR? Advanced Auto Parts, Autozone, and other places check your engine codes for free. the best place to start checking this out is to have those codes read. or you can buy an OBDII scanner off the internet/ebay for $30-$50, that's what i did. what a treat to read and clear your own codes in 5 seconds! read that code and let us know what it is. I will be getting that code soon. I just did a compression check because I smell gas from the tailpipe rather strongly in the morning when I first start her up. The comp. check was 192 #2, 172 #4, 187 #1, 182 #3 Then I was reading about the EGR but it said nothing about the car not having one. That is why I asked the question. Thanks all- David
