Joenasnj
I just resealed the engine. Had the heads completely redone with new valves and they were decked. I used all gaskets from my local Subaru dealer. i put a new water pump, thermostat, timing belt, all new hoses and regular belts. Here is my problem the car runs great, but the lower hose stays cold i have no heat and it starts to overheat(I shut it down before it pins the needle.) I thought i bought a bad stat so i changer it and still have the same problem. Could it be a bad water pump? I just can not see it being the head gaskets. thanks Joe
idosubaru
"rebuilt" or "resealed"? rebuilt would mean the block was split, pistons, rods, bearings all coming out? resealed would be just the head gaskets. did you have the heads pressure checked (or block halves inspected if you did a rebuilld)? once it's getting hot are there bubbles coming out the overflow reservoir? cracked head or cracked block are possibilities. Joenasnj
Sorry resealed. the heads were completely gone over and valves replaced and tested. I saw a few bubbles not a lot. i figured it is air pockets.
davebugs
Did you fill the upper rad hose with coolant or just the rad? I just had this issue recently with a 2.2 and 2.5's are worse. Took off the upper rad hose, filled through there, re-attached the hose, topped off rad. All was good. If the pump has only air in it it doesn't circulate fluid very well. You can do a search here for BURP - they will mostly be related to the 2.5's which are a bit problematic. Dave
Joenasnj
I will try filling it up that way tomorrow. I'll let you know how i make out. thanks Joe
lmdew
Jack the front of the car as high as you can when you fill it, it will help get the air out. Fill it slow. When its full squeeze the top hose to pushe the air out and draw the fluid back in. Keep on doing this until there are no more air bubbles. Joenasnj
Taking off the upper hose and filling it that way did the trick. Thanks Joe
BoostedBalls
There is also a plug on the top of the radiator on the passenger side that can allow you to fill the system better.
