I just did a 3x drain and fill in the auto tranny. I only bought 11 qts. So i imagine i am still qt shy. Yes i could use the dipstick to measure it, but its busticated.

My method of refilling the empty qt containers lets just say was less then perfect.

may the person who designed that dipstick be forced to work on designing the next chevy vega for eternity.

Even with the dipstick I can't tell the real level for 12-24 hours afterwards... seems to take the ATF forever to clear out of the dipstick tube.

As long as your driving isn't too spirited (and/or the day too hot), being a quart low is probably better than overfill. If it slips/hesitates during accelleration (fore/aft or lateral) probably a good idea to drop in another quart. Ought to get you by until the dipstsick faerie drops by.

do you want a transmission dipstick in your power steering pump package too? right now is horrific timing, so feel free to remind me, they're in my garage i just need a few minutes at home to do it.

i can read chinese better than those dipsticks too.

I'm due for an auto tranny drain & fill at 100k miles on my 2000 forester.( dealer wants $150 to change fluid! ( piss off,,,) Also tried to sell me on the $550 coolant, engine oil, diff fluid, tranny fluid "tune up"....)

How many quarts should I drain and then add at a time? I think it was 3...

the best advice i heard was too measure what you drain and add that amount. it's a pain to do unless you mark an empty jug in 1 qt increments before you pour the old into it.

reusing wiper fluid bottles works ok, but they are only a gallon. liquid laundry detergent bottles are great, espesially the really big ones with the push button spouts. they hold a couple of gallons and they don't decrapitate over the winter if it sits around for a while.
