superu
Hey all, My folks have an '07 forester, on a road trip to Portland this weekend, they lost one of their sets of keys (car key and alarm/keyless entry fob). The suby dealer in their home town wants over $200 for a replacement. Its a bit rediculous to be out $246 for losing your keys! So I'm looking for tips/advice/ideas to get them another set for a reasonable cost. Can they get a generic alarm fob like at an aftermarket car stereo/alarm shop and program it to their car, or are suby fobs specific somehow? OR is there a key trick to disarm the alarm without the push-button fob? ideas???
OB99W
Do a Google Web search on "subaru keyless remote" (without the quotes). That should turn up several of the online suppliers. It'll probably cost less than $50 in total. Get the remaining key copied, program the remote, and that should do it.
nipper
If these keys have anti-theft chips in them, then beleive it or not, thats not an unreasonable price. If they do not, then hes nuts. You can get the fobs on ebay also, as well as searching google. nipper
Spiffy
from what cars101.com says it's got a chip in it that's registered to the receiver unit in the car... so it's probably going to be expensive... but it seems that you may be able to get a used key and reprogram it at the dealer for your vehicle... --Spiffy
