zukiru
my franken clutch isn't working out... and honestly if I am going to have to get a different FWD tranny to get a big enough clutch for the 2.5RS motor then I may as well get a nice AWD one right? I have the rear end stuff from a 3.7 from an 85 XT I can use.. (this is on the 2.5 swap going in my 86 XT dl)

zukiru
thank you and thanks for not just telling me I am stupid... lol FWD it stays... I don't want to mess with finding a 3.9 rear end..
mellow65
don't think there are any 3.7 ej trannies. 3.9 are as low as they go. around 06 wrxs went to a 3.7 final ratio just find you a 4.11 legacy rear end and the tranny, bolt in bada bing bada boom and Albies allied armament monster wagon uses a stage 3 clutch for a GL and he has never slipped his 300+ horse power he has. is not very streetable but its an option
idosubaru
finding a 3.9 rear diff is easy - all manual transmission XT6's are 3.9's and then there's EJ's that have them as well. you could try a front diff swap if you wanted too. there's some good threads on here about doing that. zukiru
I've decided to not do the swap... why would I hack up a good looking 40+ MPG car?

zukiru
I did the dragon trip on 80 bucks gas total... 32 mpg average. 70 on the highway and 2nd and 3rd gear for 200 miles of dragon running... (I was taking it fairly easy though) yeah it gets near 45 on the highway at 60 ..... no official tests but yeah.... I just found the weight listed in nada classic cars guide as 2280.... (I'm sure that helps.)
Turbone
I've decided to not do the swap... why would I hack up a good looking 40+ MPG car? The easiest way to remedy that problem.............is to get another one!
