zukiru
can I get o the TQ converter bolts from the stater hole?? can they be accessed from below?
Turbone
No, you need to access them from the timing hole on the front of the bellhousing. And when your pulling things apart, make sure the TC stays with the tranny. If it does come loose, it can be a small pain to get it seated back into the pump. Just turn and push at the same time until it locks in.
idosubaru
there is a bellhousing access hole underneath but ive always done it up top where rob said. the starter hole won't work as the heads will be too far forward, they face the front of the car. another reason to make sure the TC stays with the trans is to make sure the input shafts don't get bent. idosubaru
sweet drew, i didn't even think about it, but you're scoring this engine for the XT? timing hole FTW! that makes life simple! i've seen some that are actually really tight to get into, but i can't recall which motors that is or if it's even old or new gen? have a good set of tools (6 point) and such ready for those bolts, they're going to be a bear if they get rounded. zukiru
I have a manual impact driver too... quite handy and fits in my little bag. I have this bag about the size of the shoe box from a pair of low-top chucks... I pulled a transmission with the tools in it... lol yeah this is from the 85 XT in the montgomery AL pull a part I keep going on a bout.. sad too cause it's complete, no rust and all the panels are straight... it's even black.... but by the time I get too it with money it may be crushed.. I am hoping I can get the motor quickly enough,... but it looks like it will be monday at the soonest. if I was sure I had a few more weeks I'd get the straight black door and fender too...
