4x4brat Posted August 28, 2008 Share Posted August 28, 2008 Well after 2 years gathering all the parts to rebuild another BRAT 4" Lift on a 1978 Brat...ca smog:dead: timing IS set to 8 degrees....but seems to BoUnCe (tried 4,6,10,12) rebuilt ea-71 "All" new exhaust, cat.... with New "POINTS",cap and rotor (points set at .018 gap) rebuilt hitachi carb, new wires, plugs in the driveway: it Idles "FINE" but it backfires thru carb when throttle is hit (under 2500 rpm)seems to rev high ok when driving: Throttle needs to be feathered to help built High rpm's but still has no power Any Ideas? I'll be checking vacuum today Thanks I had a 78 sta wag and the only way I could get it to run properly was to set the points with a dwell meter. When I used the dwell it ran great.
