Where to get Spring pins?

I am mating back the front axles to the transmission, but one of the old Spring pins looks like it is bent and will not go in.

 

Long story short, where can I buy new spring pins? Napa, Kragens and Autozone say they do not sell them.

 

So where oh where can I find spring pins?

Oh also I may need a new stud for the exhaust, where would I find those too?

Junk yard. Any older Subaru will have some on it. Just knock out a handfull with your 3/16" pin punch. Probably won't cost you anything beyond the entry fee and you'll get a chance to look for other stuff.

 

They are virtually always included with new/reman axles so once you have done a few axles you will likely have spares comming out your ears. I have a whole drawer full of them in my garage.

Napa should have a wide variety of spring pins. If you can take the old one with you to match it, or if you have a spare CV to take. Or just goto the counter and have them pull a CV from stock, and use that CV to find the right pin.

 

I would try Napa before any Kragen or Autozone.

You just need the right size. Im not sure what the correct size is though.

Brian is correct - it's just a metric roll-pin. 6mm I beleive. Fastenal could get them I'm sure. You don't need an account to shop through them unlike Granger.

Well I read that you never want to reuse the spring pins, also with the shape these were in, I donno if I would want to. I found a place online that has alot more brat parts then the local autoparts stores so Ill order from them.

Im hoping I would have to replace the axles for a while at least.

That's just incorrect. They are not load bearing components or wear items. As such you inspect and replace only as necessary. That is basic mechanic knowledge.

 

These are not specific to Brat's. They are plain metric roll-pins. They are used on all Subaru's from the mid-70's to the 90's and they are all the same pin. Gauranteed you could walk into any Subaru dealer and they would have drawers full of them.

I get mine at the dealer. Napa spring pins are made out of very cheap grade metal. Its worth the 4 dollars a piece for OEM pins.

 

I bought 4 new ones when I got my car and still have the same pins. If you use the correct size punch (6mm or 7/32 inch roll pin punch) they will out last the life of the car
