i'm not sure there's any benefit. they're not more reliable and you can essentially get as much hp you want out of a subaru engine. and that without all the custom work you'd need for a porsche motor. but sure it can be done, people have put 350 V8's in an XT before!! or go find pictures of Taterheads old XT6 from 10 or 15 years ago, crazy machine.

Eric Tisch...Tischer...something like that (you can look up his website), put an ER27 in his porsche, and i think it was because the porsche engines are not very reliable..or maybe they're just expensive. but i don't know anything about them so i could be wrong. it's been a number or years since i talked to him.

my roommate had 3 in college. he needed it...in the hopes one was actually running any given day.

Subaru's are being put in a lot of things. Porsche's, VW's, Vanagon's, airplanes, boats.....Subaru's have two ideal characeteristics. You get the reliability of a Japanese company (something not typically attributed to german cars any more) with the space favorable horizontally opposed engine layout.

yeah... but where there are cars there is always somebody with too much money and a need to be different....

how do porsche boxers sound compared to a subie boxer?

I can't remeber the last time I saw a porsche on the interstate (usually only see them putt-putt around the malls, lol)

Well the injectors are louder. Almost like you have a bad lifter, and depending on the exhaust system (B&B being the most popular) it's kinda like a higher pitch V8. There's a 2007 GT3 that races in my auto cross that's super loud, it's so loud that the guy running the gate has to plug his ears every time the guy takes off. Porsche's sound very beefy though.

It would be an interesting swap. I know guys are swapping WRX motors into 914's and Porsche motors into VW vans, but I've never heard of a Porsche motor in a Subaru. You should do it. Would you go air cooled or water? Turbo or non?

As someone that works on german stuff most days of the week - I can say that their tendancy to overcomplicate everything, and change things at their factories on a weekly basis makes them poor choices to put into anything you intend to rely on. Audi makes a very mean AWD sports car these days - just make sure you have your AAA membership payed up and the title to you domicile ready to sign over when you need parts - god forbid if they have to come from Germany because they are out of stock or simply not stocked here at all.

I can have two seemingly identical machines sitting on my bench - both bought at the same time by the same customer. But if I tear them down they likely won't be the same inside . Then trying to get the *right* parts, and the correct drawings.... I have had to have emails from Germany sent out for translation so I could figure out what kind of loctite I needed
