ECM reflash

Hello ,

I'm looking for any info I can get on having my '07 impreza 2.5i ECM reflashed for more performance. I know that it's possible for the WRX and STi so I'm hoping that somewhere out there theres a company that does it for N/A cars. I have a spare ECM to send to them so I'm not worried about damaging it. Any help would be appreciated.

a lot of the guys in the local subie club here have done "open source" tuning.. apparently very effective way of tuning..

post up on and ask.. theres quite a few base maps to work with and they have had a ton of success. I dont know too much about it being that i have the oldest car in the club and just havent looked into it..

plus i think they have a new york / tri-state chapter..

be VERY CAREFUL you can easily fry the ECM, or cause engine damage if you don't know what you are doing. I'd recommend only reflashing it with firmware that has been dyno tested by a reputable tuning shop.

On a side note, I noticed the other day that the Subaru laptop at work, in the FlashWrite program, it suports JDM/EDM firmware in addition to USDM firmware, but unfortunately Subaru doesn't send us the JDM or EDM firmware files

The modern ECU's should be good for upwards of 1000 flashes, if not way more than that.

You can't fry (ie let them magic smoke out) the ecu by flashing it. You could perhaps corrupt the data on the chip and render it useless.

Given that you have a 2nd ecu, go ahead and try it. I've met some very low IQ people (with sti's) that have managed to flash their cars, so I'm confident that just about anybody can do it if they follow the steps.

For an experts advice, contact Dominic at http://www.getadomtune.com

He is local to WA, but will talk to and help people from all over! He might even have a map to help get you started.
