adema2626
Ok so here's the run down i bought this 79 brat a month and a half ago(it had been sitting for a whole year till i bought it). There were a couple things wrong with it but this short was not around then. So on the way home somethings that weren't working started to work like the windshield wipers decided to work after i had just kept them on and also the headlights turned on all the sudden. Still no short but everything seemed to start fixing it self. So i let it sit for a month and during this month the things i have done to fix it up are: Cap/rotor brakes front/rear spark plugs wires thermostat air filter That is all i have done to it so i have not messed with any of the wiring. The thermostat wire was not hooked up when i got it and still is not because i half to take out the radiator to get to it because its stuck underneath it. But this ghost was not around when i first got the car and it was unplugged then so i don't think that's the problem. The symptoms of the ghost are the right turn single gives a dull pulse and when the car warms up the gas/temp gauge rocket up to past full/over heating. I know which it is not over heating because the sensor isn't plugged in and i know coolant is flowing and the fuel was only at half. So any help on where this ghost might be or some advice on tracking it down and where to start would be really helpful, thanks! -Aaron
Cougar
The gauges you mention have a voltage regulator so there may be a problem with it. The turn signal problem may be due to something going on in the flasher unit.
ihscout54
Maybe that wire is being piched by the radiator and grounding out. You could always just cut it and run a new wire. The turn signal might be the flasher as stated above, the switch its self has dirty or weak contacts, or something is drawing extra juice from that side bulbs, short, trailer wiring issue if applicable. Check youre fuses too maybe the had gotten wet at some point during hibernation and now are making poor contact- not likely but... Were the windows left open? Did you find any nests after it sat? Those always come with chewed wires. -Sam
adema2626
Nope the windows were rolled up and i didn't find a single nest in it when i got it. The guy before me cleaned it really good so there might have been. So i went threw it today and diff all that stuff and didn't find any problems and just tinkered around and try'd it again and now it seems to work just fine with no ghost *shrug* thanks for the help guys! all look into that stuff if it seems to come back. I also just ended up pulling the radiator cause it was just filled with water at the moment because we thought it was leaking but turns out its not. So i was able to get the wire out and will plug it back in once i sand blast the radiator and paint it. Oh and sorry about posting in the wrong thread lol this is 80-90 or something my bad guys! thanks for not giving me any crap. I just saw older generation Subaru's and was like bingo that's where this goes! Edited September 17, 2008 by adema2626
