njdrsubaru
... a rock from an incoming truck hit my windshield today on my way to work, the "meteor" hit the glass very hard... now i need to replace the windshield and i'm thinking about going heated... Does it really work on frosty and snowy days?
Suzam
Yeah they work pretty well for keeping the wipers from frosting up except for those really windy freezing rain / ice storms. It still helps but doesn't always stop them from freezing up totally. It does keep the lower part of the glass by the body from building up ice though. If it wasn't there to begin with you will have to get all the electrical relays and switch too and wired it up. That might make it more trouble than it's worth. njdrsubaru
not worried about the relays, switches and wires, thats the easy part.. i just rebuilt a hole wire harness for heated seats and they work great.... so i guess im going heated windshield, YAY!:banana: Edited September 18, 2008 by njdrsubaru
msmithmmx
Have you seen the prices difference yet. My heated windsheild cracked last year. It was a 300 dollar difference. I went non-heated.
subaruplatt
What a great idea would luv... to do it to the 06 impreza wagon, How about a setting that moves the wipers to a higher park automatically so the hot air vent could have a chance. Can the dealer do a retrofit ? hmmm..... Anyone that can mass market that below $400 -ish would do well. Great idea!!!
nickb21
Heated windshields are not cheap. Also check your insurance, they may replace the stock windshield for free. nipper My thought exactly. When I had my windshield replaced the heated one would have been $100 more. Mine was out of pocket, but if you can get the insurance company to cover it, that would be cool.
CNY_Dave
I don't think the heated windshield is a huge help- it makes it easy to get that part of the windshield cleared and helps keep it cleared, but crud still builds up and the wipers still freeze. I'd miss it if I didn't have it, but as an add-on I'd think heat tape that could go at the bottom, and the left side, and the top. Especially the left side. And heated wipers. So for adding it I'd say put that effort and money (less money, at that) into some really helpful winter mods. Dave
jp98
I agree that the heated windshield isn't that nice of a feature. I live in the snow country of Colorado and it doesn't help that much. As a mater of fact I really haven't noticed a difference between a heated one and a non heated one. Put the money elsewhere. Jim
