mcbrat
a buddy of mine in town (not a board member) is trying to replace the input shaft seal on a j/y 5 speed before he puts it into his lifted 87 wagon. can this seal be replaced without cracking the tranny case? he's having difficulty removing the plate covering it? GeneralDisorder
There was a discussion about this a while ago - I believe the solution after much cursing was to loosen the bolts that hold the case halves together. GD
GeneralDisorder
Ok - I found the thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showpost.php?p=739865&postcount=37 Specifically, after having a heck of a time with it, he disassembled the tranny and found: By the way the front input shaft seal does not come out without splitting the case apart and removing the entire input shaft and bearing assembly because the bearing is retained by a snap ring to the front cover. So I guess that settles it. GD
