JWX
while I was putting in my new battery I checked out the rust underneath the battery and its bad right there. like put the least amount of pressuge and it goes thru. so how do I fix this? do I cut it out and weld in a new peice of metal? GeneralDisorder
The battery tray area is just welded in I think. You can get one from another car (have to drill or cut the welds), and weld it in where yours was. Make sure to put a plastic tray on top of it to protect the new metal... gravelRX
I feel for you man. I've got the same problem as you. Looks like the PO overfilled the battery and didn't neutralize the acid before the rot set in. I have already cut this box out as a replacement. Good thing is this is the worst rust spot on my whole car. And it's an east coast car. If you weld the new in, stitch weld first, then go back and close up the stitching. Keep the heat to a minimum in any specific area to avoid warping the thin steel. (Advice from someone that hasn't done his yet.)
