"new" 94 Legacy!

Recommended Posts

Hey!

We just bought a 94 Legacy on Monday. I'm happy with it, but have some questions...

I had an 88 GL-10 Turbo, around the turn of this century. I don't see too many similarities, which isn't that unusual, being two different cars...

The only thing that really reminds me of the old car is the smell and the FWD fuse under the hood...

One of my questions is about that.

If I pull that fuse and drive in FWD, will that help my mileage? Has anyone tried this?

Secondly:

My last subaru was a manual, this one is not, are there any issues I should know about, specific to this engine/trans combo, or Legacy in general?

Mine looks like it was really beat up in a previous life, has a previous salvage title, and I think might have been broken into/stolen at some point.

Any suggestions?

My partner wants to bondo and paint it. It's REALLY rusty!

Kev :)

Only the autos came with the fuse holder under the hood and you have to put a fuse in to make it fwd. Some people say that it does increase gas mileage but I found it doesn't! You are still turning all the same drive gear there is just no power to it! But I'm sure that someone will have a different opinion. If its in the shape you say it is hopefully you didn't pay much for it!

Hmm... Mine must have been a conversion or something... IDK I was young.

The lack of power should be what gives it better mileage, or performance... IDK. What I do know is that I really loved my old one, and would love another like that instead of the one I have :(

Oh well...

Oh yes... Purchase price: $500 cash

I had an Impreza auto and the only time I put the fuse in was when I want to burn off a set of tires! That's the only power difference, it was able to burn out really good. As far as acceleration and what not it was no different or not noticeably different! Yeah I love the old ones too you should keep an eye out for another!

Hard to find them in decent shape, mine rusted out! I'm in Minneapolis.

I presently drive a 95 Saturn SL1 because the price was right, but my starter is out so it sits a lot... I'm not really looking to replace it right now, partly because I don't have a lot of savings left and I'm starting school in January. We'll see! I looked for a Subaru when I bought my Saturn but the only other car besides my Saturn in my price range was a 90 Skylark... I think I made the right choice ;)
