tidd1340
Are they both the same pulleys? (AC and acc. belt) Got a rattle and belt squeal starting and I'm thinking its those.1996 Legacy 2.
davebugs
I don't think you're talking about idler pulleys then. Perhaps accessory pulleys? Personally I don't know what you're asking about. But it could just be me. Dave
tidd1340
Im talking about the tensioner pulleys on the alt/ps belt and the ac belt.
johnceggleston
i've never heard anyone ask this before. pulleys should be easy to come by. try removing one belt at a time to see if the noise goes away. maybe have a replacement ready to go in. i have heard that the ac pulley bearing (not the one on the compressor, but it can go bad too and is also replaceable) can go bad and that they are replaceable, but probably easier to replace the whole thing. tidd1340
Well its not the alt. or a/c ..sounds like a right side timing belt tensioner..belt has over 70 k (guess)..are these easier than the 1.8 with 2 belts?.I know i need a water pump to.If the tensioner is on the way out,is it ok to drive a few days till i can get it into my buds shop? Im going to change it out myself.
tidd1340
Thoughts on this kit? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-1996-Subaru-Legacy-Impreza-2-2-Timing-Belt-Kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem220314592992QQitemZ220314592992QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
wildhair
My only thoughts about that guy is that's where I'm buying my next kit. I've had him saved in my favorite sellers for a long time, waiting for an idler to go out. His prices are great and he's close to me.
davebugs
I get their idlers (and sometimes tensioners) frequently. Never a WP or TB though. My local independent autoparts has Dayco belts at the same price and new metal WP's for less than 50 bucks so I get them local and I like the OEM WP gasket. I have had a few minor problems but all were solved well. Mostly SLOWER shipping than expected, one time the wrong valve cover gasket set. If you get the parts ahead you should be fine. I often order the parts when I get the car. By the time I get it into the garage, engine swapped or HG job, rad flushed, etc. I expect the parts to be here and sometimes they aren't. Even though they should be based on their shipping times. It's cost me a few days on a few cars. That said no problems with the quality, price is excellent, just add a few days to leadtime to be safe. Other folks sell kits with the same GMB bearings, etc. I've stuck with these guys and they have treated me fair. I've probably purchased a dozen kits from them for 95-99 2.2's and 2.5's. Originally I posted here just as you have to get opinions. It seemed that other folks had satisfactory experiences using them. Dave

davebugs
I'd call the guys from Ebay - they are on the left coast so they are 3 hours behind I believe. I'd imagine that they could ship overnight for significantly less that the money you'd save. I don't believe that's an interference engine. For 100 bucks difference I could probably wait a day - but that's me. You can still tear it apart. If they can't ship to be there tues morning you can still go spend big bucks at NAPA. Just a thought. Note that the kit doesn't include the actual tensioner but does include it's bearing. Dave
tidd1340
My only concern is if its the water-pump..i can watch the gage but dont want to cook the motor.if i read correctly the engine can still run but the pump can freeze..also monday night is a good night at his shop..might just have to pay up this time!!
