crash321
I am a new guy here and really appreciate all the information and knowledge you all have. I have a auto tech background, but have not been practicing for a while now unless you count my own vehicles (mostly GM). I have a 98 OBW with the 2.5 5 speed. This is my first roo and have loved it so far. How can you tell you have a LSD. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks so much guys.
johnceggleston
for most lsd diffs, you jack up both rear wheels and turn one wheel by hand. if both wheels turn the same direction it's limited slip. if they turn in different directions then it's an open diff. this may not work on a viscous lsd. in those, the viscous fluid needs to heat up before it will limit slipping. any one else know about a vlsd? wtdash
I don't believe in '98 the OB had an LSD. Subaru is a bit inconsistent w/their (V)LSD applications. Here's a reference for you: http://spda-online.ca/modules/tinycontent/rewrite/tc_28.html Also, did you check the back of the rear diff - this an older one, but should work as an example:
crash321
Thanks, I know that my diff does not have the lsd label on it, it is just that my rear end slides right out fron under me in the snow. Pretty cool though:burnout:

GeneralDisorder
You don't. LSD's only come on performance models and not all of them. Outback's are not, so it wouldn't have come with one stock. GD

subsince77
The only reason I viewed this thread was to see if someone was going to post something like that. It was my first thought - degenerate childhood. I notice you were completely ignored. Probably just as well.

I found it humourous, and appreciated the humor, just didn't feel it needed a comment (it was a small joke that could stand on its own). subsince77
Don't get sand in your mangina, was just trying to lighten the mood. What? I am being misunderstood. I thought it was hilarious. That's what I meant by it was my first thought when I saw the title. I was confessing that my degenerate childhood prompted me to read it that way. Anyway, guess I should have included a :):clap::headbang:.
