bratman18
These are the pics of my stock power steering on a spfi conversion! I tried to get several views, but there is some stuff in the way. I know someone wanted to see them. Hope this helps!
XT6 Magic
Thanks for the pictures! So it looks like you left the front cast iron bracket as is and rotated it so only two of the three mounting holes are used and just modified the rear bracket? Did you actually cut/weld the front cast bracket? It looks tight but it seems to work. I just received all of the PS/Alternator brackets, pump, lines, ect from an EA81T motor. I also have an EA82 pump and bracket. So far I can verify the EA81T and EA82 power steering brackets are the same dimensionally. The EA82 pump housing is longer and shaft larger (hubs will not interchange) than the EA81T pump. This combination also requires the EA81T crank pulley and water pump. It looks like it will work pretty well. Some mounting bosses on the EA81 block will need to be drilled and tapped. Clearance it going to be REAL tight around the distributor. I can take some pictures of all of this stuff before it goes on if anyone is interested. -Jeff
bratman18
Yes I had to cut and reweld both mounts....front and rear. The front one is cut and then kind of clocked and then welded. The rear I can't exactly remember but I think I just did it so it would fit! This is a pic of the front mount...
XT6 Magic
Nice job on the bracket! I have that (right side) PS setup too but I think I am going to try the EA81T parts first since I'm not much of a welder and don't know anyone locally who is. Isn't it difficult to weld cast iron parts like that? -Jeff

But yeah Good luck with it and if you have any more questions I will do my best to answer them!
mcbrat
hmmmm. this is a problem.... is that the only way around it with the stock PS pump? I'm adding PS to my Red Brat to run the Toyotoa IFS box, I've got a weber on right now, but am planning on doing the SPFI swap... what about a different t-stat cover? or is the manifold the actual interference point? bratman18
AFAIK the manifold is in the way. Yes mostly the thermostat but I think it's also the intake manifold. But I guess the only way to find out is to try fitting it. I know that mine was well worth the custom bracketry! I love my ps!!
XT6 Magic
I just finished the EA81 SPFI PS conversion using EA81T parts and it works great. You need the EA81T crank pulley, water pump, PS pump and hoses (either EA81 or EA82 pump bracket will work). I also used an EA82 Non AC alternator bracket from an 86 GL with a carb. The EA82 PS pump is longer and will not work. My EA81 block had the bosses that needed to be drilled and tapped for the brackets. Some early EA81's do not. Thank You Aarons for the parts!!! mcbrat
looks like I'll finally get to the SPFI this winter... but I'm going to keep the EA-81 PS pump, since I have 2 or 3 spares. I might just try to make a new bracket and do something different for the tensioner pulley....
mcbrat
hey, I might actually finally get to this about 20 months ago, I picked up the EA81T PS pump bracket and pump I think, so that should be the last bit of parts needed...
