SubeeTed
Hi ALL! I have a '97 GT WGN, 2.5 DOHC, 176 K miles on it. Last night on my way home from my "Back-Guy", my CEL needed to go off! This worked out fine! On my back home I have to drive by my buddies garage! We ran the SnapOn CEL Code thing...it said Front Cat Peformance lacking...or whatever! The car Starts, Runs Fine! I cleared code, drove 10 miles home...no problems. I see here that that front cat usually isn't the problem, says the Nipper! It's usually the Up Steam 02 sensor. Mines still original, the rear has been replaced. Since my car is running fine...I thought I'de do the old Sea Foam treatment. Do the old run it through the engine. I have NEVER done this myself....just EXACTLY how do you do this?? Oh ya, my gas milage is about the same, it has gone down about 2 mpg's, its winter, its what I usually get with Higher Idling, running heater fan etc. Many thanks,SubeeTed
idosubaru
take your seafoam and set it on the ground. then dance around it while chanting incomprehensible grunts. then rub it on your belly and pour it in your oil......okay for real this time: buy seafoam - follow directions on the bottle. which are to pour the can in the engine oil. davebugs
I feed it through the line for the brake booster. Watch it - you can flood it out. Infact sometimes I do where it tells you to turn the car off for a bit. I pour it into an old light colored areosol can lid so that I can see the level of fluid. Actually there is probably a better(smaller) vacuum line to use but I used the brake line the first time and old habits.... BEWARE THE WHITE SMOKE!!!! Neighbors may think thehouse is on fire - I'm not exaggerating!! I'ts really impressive when you're doing this. And after the car has sat for a little bit and you take it for a drive. Haven't needed to do it in a while. But it's fixed the 'catalytic converter poor performance' or whatever several times for me. Dave

nipper
It's like chicken soup, it wont hurt and may help. And yes find some empty field someplace to do this, as the neighbors will think your electing a pope or something. nipper
SubeeTed
OK.....so what I did! Get a CLEAN Campbells Chicken Soup can! Put 6 0z's of Sea Foam in it! Put on the ground....get a Virgin (this IS a must ) Indian Dream Keeper above your head! Dance the Indian Dance....BUT Backwords! And don't forget to pitch a Penny into the nearest Fountain before you do ANY of this! But if this fails just follow the good instruction below! http://volvospeed.com/Repair/seafoam.html

subaru360
The fix for that code is new catalytic convertors. If you want to cheat, get 2 spark plug anti foulers and put them on the rear O2 sensor, you have to drill the center of one out so it fits. This will pull the sensor out of the exhaust stream and fool it so it won't set the code again.
SubeeTed
That YouTube video does it all! Few words, gets to the point!

I for one will NOT tell someone to spend 100's of dollars without trying everything else first. Rarely its the converter. Scondly the Anti foulers just hide the problem, it doesnt fix it. It can also affect driveability. nipper
