1993 Legacy L 2.2L Condenser fan motor

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I hope this is the right place to post this:

I've been pulling my hair out looking for a condenser (passenger side) fan motor. While fixing the radiator on my daughters car LegL, I noticed this fan isn't working as it should - when the car is hot and AC on, the fan tries to start, but can't quite spin up...I've checked the voltage to the fan and its OK, and I've tested the fan on the bench and its just barely running..With fuill power applied you have to spin the shaft and it will jerk along, sorta.

Checked online for a replacement, and I can't find one anywhere. And I'm looking for an alternative to the ~$300+ the dealer wants for one. There is a used one on eBay for $68 but it might be in the same condition as the one I've got.

SO: I'm looking at the replacement fan assemblies for the 1995 Legacys..It LOOKS like I could take the motor / fan assembly off the replacement shroud, and mount it on the shroud I've got...??? Is the motor plug the same (3-wires)??

Or is their another source for the condenser fan? The radiator fan (driver side) runs perfectly fine.

the fan motors actually don't fail all that often, very rare really. best to just get a used one, they're super cheap. someone on here would likely even have an extra one (i probably do for instance). new would be like burning cash.

you could try and crack the motor open and just clean it and replace brushes, but i've never heard of anyone doing that. or have an electrical shop do that for you (any place that does starters, alternators or any other electric motor rebuilding).

the Legacy is a New Generation vehicle, so that's the forum you'd want to post in for this car.

good luck!

Oops....sorry...I went and cluttered up the great web site! Maybe a mod could move it?

Yeah, I would guess the motors are usually pretty reliable, but this one is definitely toasted - and nobody stocks a replacement for it.

grossgary - you have a pm...

Thanks!
