mcbrat
what are the differences in oil plan clearance, etc when swapping a ej22 in place of an ea81?

mcbrat
:popcorn: nothing that fun yet... as the Red Brat build goes along, I'm trying to look at any potential swaps in the future just in case... it's looking like I need to notch the oil pan on the ea81 for the steering, since we are keeping the center of gravity as low as possible... bheinen74
buy my turbo wagon, daily drive it then swap to Red BratYota. that ej22t is going to be in someones older soob someday, Bens, yours, etc????
TheYeti
I am sure ShawnW would know for sure, but I think the 2.2 was about 2 inches (maybe a bit more) lower than the EA it replaced in his turbo wagon.
Numbchux
the bottom of the pan definitely hangs down lower than the bottom of the EA82 pan. but IIRC there's a bit more clearance between the pan and the crossmember.....
mcbrat
ahhh. well, due to some other mods to the brat for the steering, it'll just have to stay a EA81, with SPFI next summer.... and since I'll have gearing alternatives, I don't necessarily need the EJ..... LPGsuperchargedBrumby
rounded EJ22 sump clears the sump guard by about an inch...square bottomed EJ18 sump was alot closer but still cleared with room to spare
Scott in Bellingham
EJ pan sits lower say 3/4" guess, theres nothing much in there so a pan mod would be a easy thing
Numbchux
EJ pan sits lower say 3/4" guess, theres nothing much in there so a pan mod would be a easy thing yep, the VW guys do it all the time. helped a local guy take 1.5" off the bottom of an EJ22 pan to put in a vanagon.
