Mrs. Screwbaur2 got herself another Soob

Wife just got herself a 2003 Outback sedan H6. Nice car! It's got the winter package leather seats, seems to need nothing except a driver. She's got a 99imp she need to get rid of. The car is tired but would be a great parts or base car for rally. It can be had cheap. Anyone interested? I'll post pics of both later,right now they're both covered with snow. We got about a foot and half over the last 2 days!

I don't think it has VDC as I didn't see any control for it.

I'm located in Rhode Island about 5 miles from the Conn. line. The imp has a loud rap in the motor (2.2) that doesn't go away, the body leaks I think from the windshield then runs down inside the dash on to the rug, the shocks need to be replaced. It does have some brand new parts like a radiator, condenser, headlights, battery. I've got 2 soob projects sitting waiting for spring I don't really need another car taking up room in my driveway. I'd like to get enough for it to pay the sales tax on the "new" car which is $700. We are very motivated to sell. All offers well be considered.

Ok I'm going to try and post a few pics of the sedan. I havn't had much luck with this. Hey it worked!!!

The rear of the 99 imp is in the rear shot of the sedan follow the roof line on the right side of the sedan.

I'll clear the snow off and post some pics later.

oh, i thought all the H6's had that. it would have a light in the dash on start up (like all the other lights), and mine at least has a VDC on/off button under the radio.

 

so the impreza runs and drives just fine, how many miles?

The imp is very drivable. She was driving it daily right up until she got the OB.

It has 170K and is up for lots of work. T-belt water pump oil pump shocks front and back trans flush add that to the body leak(s?) and the engine rap and it's more $$ than I want to put into. She paid $6K for it 6-7 years ago with 60K on it, and it's been trouble free all that time. It missed a few oil changes down thru the years (my fault) hence the rap. She got her money's worth out of it because we only pay cash for ours cars so we don't have payments and interest$$$. It's probably cost us $1100.0 a year to own and operate. Purchase price plus maintance I do ALL my own work, so it owes her nothing which is why she is wiling to sell cheap.

 

VDC is some kind of drive control, for people who can't handle a car on their own. Apparently it even allows the ABS to apply the brakes individuly, said to reduce one car crashes by 40%. I'm dubious about the worth of it but then I've never been the driver of a car that was in an accident. As long as it drives good and doesn't get stuck in the snow it works for me. We're simple people here.

VDC is great for someone who doesn't have a lot of car-handling skills and can benefit from 'the hand of god' reaching down and straightening the car out. Even for an experienced driver it can be seen as another layer of protection, but probably keeps the car from being 'as fun' to drive.

 

Given 2 cars exactly the same, but one without VDC and the other with (with a VDC OFF button) I'd pick the one with VDC if the price was close.

For my wife who's not very confident in the snow I'd pick VDC every time.

 

I also don't feel much need for VDC, but I imagine there are times off-road where it would get you out where the regular 4eat would just leave you spinning 2 tires. Of course better AWD/4wd just lets you keep going deeper in until you get stuck better...

 

My '03 LL bean H6 has no VDC, but it only stops when its high-centered or ultra-slick, ultra-slick meaning you can't start on the hill and need a tiny bit of run-up.

 

With the extra torque of the H6 putting it in "2" is an especially powerful weapon in the snow. Enough power to move pretty good, torque is reduced just enough that there's usually no spinning.

The wife took the car in for inspection today at a local Subaru dealer. It didn't pass because the rear brakes need to be changed. They also told her it needs plugs, oil, trans, diff fluid. These guys are getting desprate for business. I didn't check the rear brakes but I did check all the fluids at the used car lot and changed the oil and filter when I got it home. When I called them and told them I do my own work you got almost hear the guys heart sink. I didn't have the heart to ask him why he's checking fluids as part of an inspection. I thought it was telling though that the only fluid that they didn't mention was BRAKE FLUID!:lol: The used car dealer is going to do the brakes tomorrow. I'm not doing anything myself that should have been done by dealer before the sale.
