MysteriousXTC
Have a 87 GL10 that I just swapped a manual tranny into, long slow process but for the most part its done... Anyway, car ran fine before I did the swap conversion however now it will not crank... Left it sitting a week and a half ago and the issues was the starter would not turn the engine over, don't imagine the starter went bad during the swap when it wasn't in use... I come in today to try and get some work done on it and now it does nothing when I turn the key... Actually the only thing it does is the fuel pump relay is clicking on and off every few seconds... I can here the pump working when the relay turns it on and when i try to crank it I can here the injectors shooting... Gonna be back and forth between the computer and the car all day so I hope I can get this figured out with the help of the subaru gurus out there... From my count I have 6 or so relays hanging down and I think I might have swapped two of them and never swapped them back, so does anyone have a wiring diagram that lists the proper relay numbers... thanks in advance for any help... merry christmass and happy holidays -caleb also the ecu is still for an auto, didn't think that would be an issue other than having to jump a few wires and maybe get some codes involving a torque converter and things of that nature... MysteriousXTC
One more thing, noticed that the lights in the dash never go out when the key is engaged forward without cranking... And when I do something like engage the parking brake the light gets brighter... So I definately have constant power gonig there that I shouldn't, or so it would seem... capn_r
If your starter hasn't functioned since the swap I would guess the circuit that did go through the neutral switch is open. Can you jumper the solenoid terminal on the starter and have it crank over?
MysteriousXTC
ok just found a bad connection at the starter relay, thats all fixed and I was able to jump the car off... so it runs Still the fuel pump relay is still ticking on and off when the car isn't running and the key is forward... Also the sound I thought was the injectors is a little solenoid type thing, on the passenger strut tower behind the airbox... Looks as though it has a vaccum line running to it and one black and one red wire running to it...

That is normal and they are supposed to do that, just like all cars do also. That is the test mode for the warning lights. As far as the fuel pump working it sounds like the diagnostic plugs are tied together and shouldn't be. They are either under the dash or under the hood near the firewall. Skip
The fuel pump issue sure sounds what Cougar says Under the panel that is above your knees when driving is the ECU tucked up by the st.col. To the left side of it you will find a pair of green connectors and a pair of black connectors - both sets are single wire connectors and neither should be plugged togeather. Some one may have plugged the green ones together to check the ignition timing (this must be do to do so) Then forgot to dissconnect them when finished. Skip
One more thing, this car has no "starter relay" from the factory Maybe you meant "starter solenoid" The wire to which is located on the back of the starter. and you say "Looks as though it has a vaccum line running to it and one black and one red wire running to it..." This is the duty solenoid for the boost control. It will also stop ticking when the green connectors are unplugged.
MysteriousXTC
The diagnostic plugs where connected so that is undone now, guess the guy who had it prior had them plug together, thanks for that tip... Defininitely meant the starter solenoid btw... Thanks for all the help... Hopefully I can have her driving tomorrow when I get the new axle, man im excited... Happy holidays to everyone and thanks again...

Thought after a few seconds most lights go off, idk I do pay to much attention to detail sometimes lol..
Skip
We will take it as a given that you know the green connectors must be connected when setting the ignition timing. Many thanks for keeping us updated. Too many time a solution is found and with no update --> anyone searching the post in the future does not get the answer. Happy "Holly Daze" to you and yours also.
