Rust
1986GL fwd. Only the drivers side CV is engaging in any gear. The haynes book doesn't cover a trans teardown. Is there a fix, or do I need to replace the whole trans. The trans is an automatic 3 speed. Any suggestions appreciated:-\
WoodsWagon
What do you mean by engauging? It has an open front differential, so what ever axle has the least resistance will spin if both wheels are in the air. For one to spin, there has to be a connection to the other. What can happen is someone puts manual turbo axles on, which are a larger diameter spline on the side of the differential. The roll pin then snaps and the cv cup spins on the differential stub shaft splines. Or, a cv can break internally, so the cv cup turns, but the axle or wheel doesn't. Pretty much, if it spins one axle, it's not an internal transmission problem.
nipper
Sounds like you have a broken CV joint internally. Its a common thing to happen, you just need a new axle. nipper
Rust
thanxs for the advice, I was hoping the trans. wasn't toast. Next break in the cold weather I'll tear into it to get my green machine back on the road.
