nipper
Have you had the heads machined yet? nipper
xoomer
No I have not had the heads machined yet. I don't think its that severe... I think its just gasket failure, We will find out when I get it apart, if they are within tolerance. it didn't milkshake it just is a little exhaust into the coolant. SO you want to do this job twice, two partiesa then. The finish of the mating surface on the sylinder head is crititcal, otherwise your odds of having another failure withiin a very short time go up dramatically, and may even be 90%. It also takes more then a flat edge to find out if your cylinder head is flat. http://www.aa1car.com/library/ic697.htm Also i hope you are using a subaru HG. nipper
xoomer
I am using Subaru Engine Set Part Number 10105AA052, the shop I bought this car from Superior Subaru of Burien told me that with the amount of miles on the rig 146k, and the fact that the car still runs beautifully the heads should need to be machined but if I have the tiniest amount of warpage I'm going to.. Unfortunately It may have to wait now I hit a piece of wood on the way back home from work and blew a belt on my one of my tires. and I can't find a replacement till monday. Stupid Cooper tires! Not buying them again. I'm gonna go with something more mainstream. Next time.
Phizinza
Just test the heads with a straight edge (steel rule) and feeler gauges. If its with in spec forget about machining. It will only take life off your motor in the long run when it does warp and you can't machine anymore because the intake manifold no longer lines up. I think nippers point is that the tolerances on these heads are so tight that they should be professionally checked with the proper tools and equipment that any yahoo will not have in his/her garage. If the pro shop with the proper tools finds that everything is in spec, then they are not going to machine the heads. Like he said, why do the job twice.:-\

I dont even use feeler gauges to spec mine out, i use dial indicators, as feeler gauges can be off. Use the proper tool with the proper tolerances for the proper job. We are talking 1000ths here so its not going to cut down thelife of the engine, as opposed to not doing it where literally within 100's of miles you can have the same problem again. nipper
xoomer
Nipper your point is taken well... I already have to much money invested in parts to mess around. I'm gonna take both the block and the heads in to be checked and I'm buying new head bolts.
