wiring questions

i am getting ready to get into the process of wiring my brat for a turbo swap. what i need to know is, how much of the ea82t harness will i need and will i have any issues with connecting the engine harness to the body and dash harnesses?

 

when i am done, i plan on swapping the ea81 and trans into the car that is donating the ea82t. basically, it will be made into a paintball tank:grin:...

 

i willbe swapping over the engine and trans in both cars. sofar, the wiring is, as far as i can tell, going to be confusing.

The first thing I'll tell you that once you understand, you might not get. The wiring itself seems like it'll be a pain but in all reality, its very easy. You have to keep in mind that you're not changing the wiring going from the ECU to the computer which is about 80% if not more, of the "wiring". My EJ22T harness literally has like 5 wires that get spliced into 2 fuse locations under the dash, the fuel pump power, and gauges. Its also got the spot where it has a couple grounds and where it gets its main power from the battery, thats it!. The FSM from the donor car will be the best thing you'll own when it comes to it, hands down. My EJ22T harness is going to be totally seperate except for the half dozen wires or whatever it is, that I have to splice in so I'll be able to take the engine out and put it in another car. Or put it on a stand and make it run.

ok, that makes sense. my only other real question is whether or not the gauges from the rx will work in the brat. or if the signals coming from the rx parts will work with the brat dash. im not sure how i am going to go with the gauges on the brat. i might just keep it stock if it will all work together.

 

honestly, i cant wait to get this project going ahead. the brat will be fun when done and the rx coupe me friend has is going to be interesting when done. i wonder if anyone else has used an ea82 chassised car as a paintball tank/apc?

ok, well, i was thinking, i need the wiring section of the 1987 ea82t fsm. i am sure that the wiring is the same as in the 86 rx i have and my haynes manual was pretty accurate on the wiring diagrams. will the haynes manual be enough for the wiring or will i NEED the fsm?

Actually, the whole engine management system changed in 87. Along with some wiring colors and connector types throughout the whole car.

 

You really must have the FSM for 85 or 86. And I can tell you, the 86 FSM is much more clearly laid out and user friendly. The 85 books are still oddball and read like comical Japanese translations from godzilla movies.

actually, my 86 rx had wiring harnesses from about three different cars. the body harness was the orginal, the engine harness was from an xt turbo (for the spyder manifold) and i think the wiring from the ecu to the engine was from an 87 or 88 gl-10 wagon. all of it worked together and none of it fit properly under the dash:lol:
