lostinthe202
I've been looking for a 5spd D/R trans which is supposed to be a non-turbo which means a 3.9 diff (right?). I found a place with a JDM unit he says has been sitting on the shelf for years. He doesn't know the miles but thinks it to be under 100k and is offering a 100 day warranty. He wants $350 for it. What say you? Yard pickin's are pretty dang slim around here, but I still think $350 is too high. What should I offer him? Thanks! Will-
monstaru
if it has been sitting on the shelf for years, i would say that you just need to convince him that if he does not get rid of it now,he never will.:)i would offer him $150 and go no more than $200.we commonly pass around trannies over on this side of the world for 50 bucks apiece. i have seen people pay $250 for one before, but that just seems outrageous to me.maybe i am spoiled.......... cash talks, bull************ walks. he can say all day long that he wants $350 for it,but if he has a had a bad day or week retail wise,he could change his tune with the show of green.use it in your favor........don't let your pride get in your way. i can bet you he did not pay that much for it,it probably came with an engine he ordered for someone and they did not need the tranny....just my opinion.....cheers, brian
Skip
how do you verify that the JDM unit had the same ratio as a US model? Maybe that why it's been "on the shelf"??

lostinthe202
Well, the good news is that it is a US model so it is a 3.9, the bad news is that not only will he not budge on the price, but he won't do pickups so I'd have to fork over another $100!! Forget it. The hunt continues!!
idosubaru
i realize it's a done deal will, but $250 isn't a horrible price for a transmission if it's what you want. and normally those jokers would come down a bit...weirdo! it is on the high side and you can get cheaper. and heck it's not even hard to find a completely car for that (blown motor, trans, etc). but if it's what you want, when you need it, and it's close, then it's worth more than "what's the cheapest I can get a trans for". the time spent searching can also be used to make money. the idea of opportunity costs is extremely valuable to those who's time is worth a considerable amount. those of us with addictive personalities need to buy quick so we're not spending all day on craigslist!!!!! lol. Crazedlist.org is the best and worst thing that ever happened to me! Yeah I did offer $250 since it's a JDM and came with a warranty, but he wouldn't go for that so meh. There's a few listed on car-part.com that I'm gonna check out that aren't too far from me that might be had for reasonable prices. Will-
