dave833
I picked up a clean '97 Legacy GT wagon with a blown engine today and wondered what the options are for a higher performance transplant are. I know the easiest solution would be to drop an EJ22 in, but I'm worried about lack of power. On the other hand, I know there's one guy here (TomSVX?) who's put an EG33 H6 in a '99 OB SUS. What are the other options?

What are the other options? is it a manual or auto trans? the gt has the outback trans and final drive ratio, 4.44 auto & 4.11 manual, with legacy size tires. this combo made it 'quicker' off the line and gave it a lot of power with the 2.5L engine. the ej22 will reduce that power, but it will still have the most powerful trans / diff / wheel combo that they've put out in recent years. if you have a 5 spd it should be less noticeable. the auto should only be a problem if you are in a race. do the 2.2 swap. The Scooby
if you want something that is reliable, and is a drop in go in a few hours then go 2.2. if you want to spend months wiring everything and goofing around then do something else. ive put MANY 2.2's into outbacks honestly you dont notice the difference.
