Subaru_dude
It's on my EJ22 wiring harness. Just always wondered what it was. http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q200/SMASHmySOOByDONTya/EJ22%20conversion/DSC_0021.jpg
njdrsubaru
seen that before and i always thought it was some sort of resistor
Gloyale
I believe it is actually a capacitor. there are a few of them scattered in the harness. Probably to supply something like the computer or cruise unit with steady power, no surges.

ShawnW
They call that a volt controlling diode I think. Limits systems to 12V. I believe the ignition system and the headlight system work thru that perticular one. Don't cut it out and you will be fine. 1/2 of it can be clipped off though. Skip
As Shawn said, I believe it is a Zener diode. From the below link "Zener diodes are widely used to regulate the voltage across a circuit" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zener_diode Edited January 13, 2009 by Skip
zedhead
It's either a Diode, or a fusible link. Hook the wire to the battery, with the car running, and measure the output side with a MM. If it's a stable 12 V then it'd be a Diode. If it's 13-14 V Fusible Link
bheinen74
it could, be related to the night time dimming.....of like the radio and such..... if it is this, would be nice to tap into for my boost gauge and radio and other such like things lighting.. Where would this be found in the car? Behind the dash or under the hood? And if you could give me an exact location that would be helpful so I wouldn't have to spend hours cutting the harness out. I ask because the one pictured isn't my harness and my harness doesn't have that diode, I must have cut it out like an rump roast.
