DaveAP
My son just pulled his '79 out from my friends back forty. It's been parked for at least 10 years. Is an Az. car, has the large sun roof, doesn't appear to have leaked. Has high roll bar, body is still pretty straight, except for the top of the tailgate. No visible rust. We'll be looking for a carpet kit, also a tailgate (door) handle. It looks pretty cool next to my lifted '78.

RenaissanceMan
I almost wish I lived in Arizona. You can park cars and forget about them. When you come back to them they are just like you left them (although the interior may be melted, lol) The 79 brat I got from phoenix years ago had an immaculate body. The engine that was in it actually fired up and ran on its own with a new water pump and a little clearing out of the cooling system. Lord knows how long THAT thing was sitting... Let me grab some snacks and sit down while newsoob chants for some pics.
The Dude Abides
I wanted to see pics of it being pulling from its doom. I love rescue storys.
moosens
Dave - congrats on the find! Hope all is well. You can use any regular old late 70's (Stage II) door handle on that t'gate. Carpet kit is on my list of "Group Buys". I hope we can find someone who'll pass along a discount for a basketful of orders. Still have some windshield gaskets here if needed. DaveAP
Well, he got it home, and gave it a good wash. It's been parked longer than I realized. It was last registered in '93. He took out the seats, and cleared all the field friends poop, and nests. It does have a couple of spots of rust, one from an impact and another on top of the front fenders. Gen ones are pretty rare around here, I will have to keep my eyes open for some door handles. I used to have a '78 wagon that ate them. We haven't tryed cranking it yet. Want to clear the fuel system first.
mcbrat
you'll want to check all fluids.... My '82 came from AZ in 2003 with 93k on it. it's last registered date was '88. engine was totally locked up, trans was empty of fluid (though I think these 2 things may have been done purposefully). brake fluid was and full of gunk and a ugly gray color. suprisingly, the radiator, though empty, was fine, and I'm still running the original radiator! when I replaced the ball joints, there was a tiny scorpion body shell in the cavity in the knuckle! but it sure was nice working with non-rusty bolts.....
