block heater

Recommended Posts

ready to put in this block heater, and thermostat

but worried about trapping air in the block heater and in the cooling system

i've successfully changed thermo on a EJ25

would the purging of air with radiator cap off be the same for my EA81???

any tips would be appreciated

In my experience, it's alot easier to fill the cooling system on an EA81, than an EJ series car. I've always just filled it up through the radiator cap, let it run till the thermostat opens, then top it off. None of this silly burping, parking on a hill, etc, that the EJ's seem to require.

drain coolant from head, there is a plug at the front outer edge of dipstick side head, 14mm

remove radiator to provide more access to block plug

install t-stat jiggle pin up

slowly add coolant

squeeze hoses until no more bubbles

you SHOULD have an oveflow system set up, whether it be from an xt6 as it has a self supporting bracket, or as simple as a 32oz fountain drink cup with lid that has hole in side and hose stuck through

finally, i was able to upload this picture

so if i drain the head should i fill up at the thermostat, then fill the radiator

i'm also going to flush the heater core, and replace any hoses ,clamp

i also have a waterpump on order

so i want to make sure i do this right

because this block heater sits in there horizontally and is concave i want to make sure i dont trap air
