Where oh where do we find distributors for our 84 brats. who knows these things, mine is driving me krazy, starts one day:banana: not the next:mad: the shaft has some play and spark is erratic. Its a find from a 2wd wagon awhile ago, I had heard they have a better power curve??? Any how wheres the fix:confused:. THANKS!

Replace it with a Hitachi disty. The power gain from a 2wd is minimal at best. The Hitachis seem to me to be easier to work with, I was able to assemble 1 really good one out of parts from 4. Nippon Denso distys arent quite as user friendly. Gotta make sure there is as little shaft play as possible, otherwise when the little gear starts cutting into the module it will destroy everything.

Got a Hitachi last year at Autozone around $180 for my 84. It came with a new Vac advance and warranty too thank goodness... I burned out the ignition module about 6 weeks later. Made an even swap and no questions when the new one came in. By the way... Don't buy a 'performance' type coil to use with it.

Hitachi is definitely the easier one to work on. Ignition modules are quite common on lots of the early GL wagons; grab one the next time you're at the junkyard, swap it into your Brat to be sure it works and keep your original one as a spare in your glovebox.

Do a search on Philbin Industries in Portland, OR for a decent rebuider of your distributor.
