I'm going to replace my Bridgestone Turanza LST's on my 2000 Forester (205/70R15). I don't seem to be getting much traction on these tires and the ABS seems to be kicking in too much in only wet weather.

Don't even ask about the light snow we got today.

I wanted to replace them with Uniroyal Tigerpaws ($85 mounted and balanced). My tire store suggested Yokohoma Avid TRZ all season touring tires ($90 per tire mounted and balanced).

Please keep in mind that I want to keep it under $100 per tire.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I'm a big fan of the Toyo Z800 and Z800 Ultra. The General Tire Altimax RT is pretty much the same tire and Tire Rack has those at $66 each.

The Dunlop SP60 has a pretty promising look, though I've never had a set. Also $60 each at Tire Rack.

If you want something a bit more aggressive, you might go to the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S. $77 each at Tire Rack. They're classified as All-Terrain tires, but they're VERY mild even so. They are factory equipment on the newer foresters as well as Mercedes G-Wagens.

How much road noise do you get from the Geolanders ?

A buddy has those on his Buick Rendevous and he seems to like them.

Like I said I want to keep this change cheap. I don't know about the stability of my job and if my job is OK I might want to replace the car this summer.

Some of the previous models of Geo's didn't get great reviews - the A/T-S may be better.

Here are the top 4 from a 'leading consumer mag':

Goodyear Assurance TripleTred

Michelin X Radial (Club Tire)

Hankook Mileage Plus II H725

Yokohama Avid TRZ

Don't know pricing, but Michelin's aren't cheap!

i've read the new foresters have geolanders and they suck in snow/ice.

That's probably why my tire guy suggested the Avid ATZ plus the good review in "leading consumers magazine" didn't hurt either !

the Geos are pretty quiet. Like I said, they're VERY mild even for an AT tire. As for sucking in ice and snow...well, I admit that I don't know. 2 reasons. 1) we don't get enough around here to REALLY worry about. 2) I have two sets of wheels and tires for every vehicle I own. 1 set for summer, 1 set for winter.

It is simply too much to expect any given tire to be great all the time. So I've got Geos (for the moment) on for Spring/Summer/Fall and I picked up some steelies with a set of sorta generic AT-type tires for winter. When those are done, I'll probably go back to the Toyo all-seasons for Spring/Summer/Fall and I'm looking at the General Grabber AT's for winter service.

I replaced all 4 tires today.

One tire was flat due to something like a push pin in the sidewall. That was not repairable. I have no idea how I picked that up or if someone did it.

My tire guy took one look at the rest of the tires and told me they were GONE.

The only ones he had in stock today in my size were a Dunlop SP50 and a Kumho. Getting anything else would mean Tuesday. That would have screwed things up for me. I settled on the Dunlop. Price was $90 mounted, computer balanced and the valve stem. I didn't think the price was too bad.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Sometimes you have to take second best.
