Subieguy
My Brat was running fine until I drove it home from work today. I was driving down the street and when I stopped at a red light it barely would idle. As the day went on it got to the point where it would stall on me when I stopped. This happened a few months ago but it went away after a day or two. I pulled the vacum line off the distributor to see if it was pulling vacum. Nothing. Checked back at the EGR valve, Nothing! Any thoughts as to what might be wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Richard

Also, all of the little rubber caps that are used by Subaru to block a vacuum port.

How many miles ago did you change plugs and or wires and or air filter? When these item come to the end of their service life, aside from fuel mileage, the idle is the first to show signs. Turn the idle up to 1000 RPM untill you get it repaired.
Twitch de la Brat
I had the same problem when I lost my center wingnut. Check to make sure you have all of your wingnuts sealed down or have an O ring underneath the bolts holding your air cleaner lid on. As well +1 to ed and +1 to skip for reiterating it. Make sure all of your vacuum tubes are connected and all of your auxiliary tubes that aren't in use, are plugged. Breaks in tubes are not unheard of, so I would try to trace your vacuum lines throughout the engine cavity. And also the brakes reduce vacuum. That's why your car stalls when you stop, the brake booster reduces vacuum in the air cleaner, which then decreases the amount of air flowing through your carb, therefore pulling less fuel and stalling out your engine. Got that? Hope it helps, Twitch

Sorry Twitch it does not work that way unless you have a faulty vacuum brake booster. The idle may fall for a second then should recover. (it's connected to the intake manifold not the air cleaner)

And I was referring to when there is a leak in the vacuum system. On a normally operating car, you're right, it'll lower slightly and then recover. Thanks for the clarification, Twitch I apologize if I stepped on your toes skip.

Subieguy
Ended up doing a compression test today and #1 and #2 not so good. Going to adjust the valves tonight and see if that helps. I have never done it and I highly doubt the previous owner ever did. Otherwise I do believe I could have burnt valves. Engine has just under 185,00 miles on it and it was not taken care of at all be the previous owner.
