Photos of my Brat

Recommended Posts

I should have done this a few weeks ago but heres the scoop. This Brat was given to me from my inlaws. It has been sitting for about 5 years. I knew nothing about them and have never had a Subaru before. I have learn tons from this site and would like to thank everyone on here.

What I have done so far. Cleaned gas tank, Cleaned fuel lines, Rebuilt fuel fuel pump (4 times lol), Tore apart the Carb and cleaned it, didnt kit it but i probably will soon, replaced spark plugs and plug wires. I bought a choke cable today and will install it soon bc the electric choke doesnt work and thats about it. I have plans to paint it soon and HOPEFULLY get a 4 inch lift for it.

Enjoy the pics please feel free to comment or give me ideas.

I will keep everyone posted on progress!!

Yeah its going to be one good project car! lol, I spent about 4 hours tonight trying to get her to run right. Rerouted some vac lines and messed with the carb some more and its running great! :headbang: Thats really what I wanted to accomplish before i start fixing it up. Im going to paint it flat army green, its going to be a hunting rig. Here in Texas we are having major problems with wild hogs and it would be great for that.

I shot one that weighed 382lbs!! Should i post a photo or you think that would upset Zap?

I don't know if posting dead animals is allowed or not? I would maybe ask one of the mods or admins first. But I would like to see it! Thats a big one!! My dads a taxidermist so I get to see a lot of nice animals!

Im going to change the oil in my brat for the first time since i have had it.

So how many quarts of oil does a EA81 hold? Also what oil would you gents suggest for a old motor with a lot of miles on it? 10w40? 20w40?

Thanks

Kelly O.

It holds 4.3 quarts I think. I usually put in four. Start it, then add the rest until it shows full on the dip stick. I would use 10w40. Thats what I use

IF, that 328lb boar was being hauled home in the back of the Brat... probably okay. Without a subaru in the picture... probably a bit off topic, eh?

On the oil question... how cold does it get there? I would definitely use xxW40, xxW30 otherwise the older subies tend to burn a bit. I go with synthetic 5W50 in mine, but that's because I'm starting it at single digit temps alot. In a more benign climate, 10W40 is probably fine, or 10W40 synethic if you want to go that route.
