Advice on removing an EJ wiring harness

Recommended Posts

I'd like to pull the wiring harness and ECU out of this legacy for an engine swap in case I ever need it for an XT or something. It's a 97 Legacy GT.

Any tips for getting it out or estimates on how long this takes? Since I may never use it, I might not pull it if it's a huge job.

Hey Gary:

When I pulled the harness for my ej swap it was fairly straight forward. I pulled the dash by chopping it out and then had to remove the heater and a/c stuff. Not sure if its the same for a 97, I pulled mine from a 93. Once the dash and heater/ac stuff was out it was easy. Good luck.

Depends on what you want to save... my 03 was a bit of work to get the entire thing out. I pulled EVERYTHING tho. If you want to swap it into an older car, just get the wires that pass though the firewall and hunt the fuel relay and ignition relay and the OBD connector... then get EMO and start cutting... other wise you have to pull the entire dash, cross beam, vent system and everything. Took me less then five hours to do it all IIRC....

i pulled the dash on my 97 legacy rather than hack it, start cutting with any speed and you're risking setting yourself up for a nightmare down the road. i wanted the entire vehicle harness from the doors forward without cutting any wires so i stripped everything.

dash and all came out fine, pita was rushing through the evaporator and heater core without accidentally popping a/c lines.
