Frank B
Carbureted engine? When you press the throttle, does the engine grown and try to stall or does it just keep idling? It could be the float sticking in the carb.
EvilDead
Intake has a leak if not carbed, or vacuum leak someplace. Make sure everythig is good and snug while you're in there.
mattri
Yeah it's carbed. I thought they'd gone EFI by 87, 86 being the transition year. It was a car I was interested in but turned out to be an auto so no matter. Thanks to those that replied, Matt.
abog
Check for engine vacuum. If your catalytic converter is clogged or has melted down the engine will not be able to expel exhaust gasses, so it wont be able to rev up. A clear sign of this is no vacuum. Easy to test, just loosen exhaust from heads to let the engine breath. If this is your problem car will run much better.
EvilDead
^^^ Another good idea. Just don't run it without them unhooked for too long, ya will burn internals up real quick.
