Removed from a wrecked Impreza in '93 (or so I'm told). 5 speed FWD transmission. Does it hurt the syncros to just sit for so long? She said it's always had grease in it... Is it ok to buy? She wants $250 which is really high, but I can't find a low mileage transmission anywhere.

She's apparently sitting on ALOT of EJ series parts. Her dad was a Soob guy and collected anything he could get his hands on.

I wouldn't pay that much for a 2wd subaru transmission. $100-150 tops. ESPESCIALLY having had sat for so long. And it's not like a J-yard that can atleast give you SOME kind of warranty.

+1.. I just don't pay over $100 for a tranny myself... yards usually cost about $75 around here and I keep that as my benchmark. As far as sitting hurting the syncros... depends on where it was sitting... if it was in a car with a hood, it's probably fine. If it was out in a field with no dipstick, it could have rust in it. Syncros are typically brass tho, so none there... it's be more the bearings I'd be concerned with.

You're right, it is WAY too much... but I just can't find any 2wd transmissions ANYWHERE. ESPECIALLY the junkyard. All the Soobs at the pull-a-part have at least 180,000 miles and are AWD (last time I checked), looking for a very low mileage replacement.
