gary, what year, car, trans, final drive, tires did you put your ej18 in??

i think you referred to it as gutless, does it serve as an around town car?

thanks

john

I have a EJ18 in a BRAT w/the EA81 4 speed dual range tranny, 3.9 final drive on 225-60-16s, that about an 1 1/2 inches over stock for the impreza tire size or 6.5% off.

It gets about 26 MPG and it's pretty petty. Granted the BRAT is light, but I have no problems scooting around even with engines and other stuff loaded in the back.

i haven't looked into it any more yet.

1996 Legacy LSi with an EJ18 - FWD auto trans and 15" tires.

I drive around town and take highway trips with the car.

It drives okay, but seems like it should be a bit better. Right now it's only annoying starting out from a stop. It's really sloooow getting up and going. If I floor it, it just slowly goes from a stop. Once it's going it's fine.

Have the EGR code and the AT light flashes, presumably because I swapped AWD to FWD. i swapped the TCU but i think the wiring pin still indicates that it's an AWD.

i'm not 100% sure, but i think the FWD trans has a 3.9 final drive. i wonder what a 4.11 manual or 4.44 auto would feel like?

  • 3 weeks later...
the EJ18 wasn't made after 95 AFAIK
What years were they available? I thought they stopped after 95

That is Just in the USA Market... here are Still Available the EJ15, EJ16 and EJ18 in the imprezas...

This is a Poor Quality Picture, taken with my CellPhone, but you can see the 1.6 in the Back of this new impreza: (and a Nice Legacy Behind)

For Example, here a 2000 year impreza with EJ15:
