I don't really notice the awd working, tried on snow and all nothing kicks in. SOMETIMES though the power light is not flashing on startup. Car: 94 legacy SS 191,000 km. idosubaru Posted February 5, 2009 Share Posted February 5, 2009 *if* changing the fluid would resolve this issue, it is not surprising that one drain and refill would not do it. would need a flush or a few drain/refills since it only gets roughly 1/3 of the old stuff out of there. by "what trips the code", so you mean you read the TCU codes and got a Duty C solenoid code? if that's the case then it's stuck in one position. of course it could be something more ominous like TCU or wiring, but solenoids failing or sticking is nothing new and very common so that's probably the case. it likely needs replaced. probably a good time to replace the clutches too while you're in there depending how much you need the 4WD. for instance now i'd want all the traction i can get so i'd probably replace it. if i was still living in Atlanta, i probably wouldn't if they seemed okay and it used to work fine before the solenoid failed. if the job is beyond you, then cutting the duty C wire and trying to manually control it (like i and a few others do) is another option. no telling if that will work though given the condition you currently have. Fluid looks very good though otherwise. Going to recheck the code maybe I am getting a speed sensor code instead? First time I checked it was just a drive solenoid c code. Nipper et al, are there failure modes where the TCU will recognize there is a problem and energize the solenoid, similar to putting in the FWD fuse? Dave Yes, if the AT temp is high or that ciruit is shorted. There are a few others too, can't recall. But i don't think that's the issue. ericem Posted February 6, 2009 Author Share Posted February 6, 2009 Oh I checked that. When we bought the car. The guy originally wanted $1200. Then I said the AWD wasn't working and figured oh maybe the FWD fuse was in but didn't want the salemen to see this. So he said OK fine $650 taxes in and its yours! I was totally hooked I figured even if there is a AWD issue it can be repaired, and considering the car was rust free and drove like a brand new car bought it right away. The guy did rust proof it hint no rust in a salt belt. Anyway the fuse wasn't in though lol. Really impressed with this thing, turbo is really amazing can't beat having boost. Now I don't drive the N/A except if it snows alot since the AWD works to SOME degree and the tires are alot better on the wagon for snow. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
