Caramanos2000
I have a badlandz electric cutout on another vehicle I have and love it but its kinda pricey. I want a cutout for my EA-82 wagon and im stuck between this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Exhaust-Cutout-Cast-Iron_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a16Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem280310060380QQitemZ280310060380QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ebayphotohosting and an electric one. Obviously electric is better, but look at the price:-\ Should I give it a try? Would halfway to the muffler be an ok spot? Currently has a full 2" exhaust with no cat. or res. just has a cherry bomb glasspack at the end Edited February 6, 2009 by Caramanos2000

The Dude Abides
LOL if you want to do cheep for a truly rice sound take off the muffler and have them weld a pipe in its place. I have no muffler on mine and its a nice balance of good sound and not to loud. Some people on here put glasspacks or turbo mufflers but if you wanted to go cheep and uncomplicated just hack off the muffler and put a strait pipe in its place. mudduck
Cops are the main issue, currently have a cherry bomband no cat There are a couple of cops around here that don't like the sound of a ea-82 with no Y pipes running at WOT.

torxxx
I will vouch for the guys sayin get rid of the muffler. As long as you have the Cat and the resnator in place still they arent very loud at all. if you get rid of the cat and resnator it is VERY loud and annoying. You will get a ticket for excess noise. I straight straight piped mine, and got pulled over within 10 minutes. I say cut out the muffler and put a piece of pipe in there and ur good to go. Phizinza
I would imagine if you had enough mufflerage to have a quiet exhaust on one end this valve thing would leak exhaust pressure and when in quiet mode would sound like a bad rusted out hole. If you had a free flow exhaust you wouldn't get this problem, but it would also sound good enough already.
torxxx
well since its straight through with 2 inch, buy a Thrush seam welded chamber muffler. Nice and quiet at idle and easy throttling, sounds angry when u stomp on it and down shift for engine breaking. I'd stay away from that exhaust valve thing, its going to be more problems than its worth :-\

I still have two cats and a turbo, so a N/A engine would be considerably louder. I've read those exhaust valves rust up pretty easy, for what it's worth. Txakura
I thought that sounded pretty good, I'd leave it the way it is, the cut out would probably make more hassle than it's worth
Loyale 2.7 Turbo
... the sound of a ea-82 with no Y pipes running ... How Could it Be? ... No "Y" Pipe? ... That Means Two independent Exhaust Pipes, or no pipes? My EA82 has an Open -without the Restrictive Filter- "Y" Pipe, No Cat and all the Pipe is 2" ... and instead of Muffler, It Has an Empty Box with the shape of a muffler, filled with industrial Fiberglass to silence the Noise without being too Restrictive. It gives the Basic Backpressure needed for the Engine. ...take off the muffler and have them weld a pipe in its place. ... But the Backpressure can go too Low without Any restriction in the Exhaust, isn`t it?

Loyale 2.7 Turbo
back pressure is a myth Well... it Might be, I Don`t Know... I Just Noticed by my Experience, that the People who leaves an Unrestricted Exhaust it their Cars -usually a Ricer Stuff- their engines trend to have Rough idle as Time passes by, driving in such Condition... and the Exhaust Valves Fail to seal Properly sooner than the intake ones; but I just saw this Behaviour on Hondas and Mitsubish¡ts... So I Don`t Believe that is a Myth at all... I Don`t want to Hijack the Thread but maybe is good idea to Share some knowledge about that, Why did you say that Backpressure is a Myth? bheinen74
I hope you're kidding after eating taco bell i need more backpressure. sorry, i took this to ot. I too, would think there needs be more than a straight pipe. DudeAbides, really, just a pipe in place of the muffler. I need to check that next time we meet up. Wonder how the Brat would do with a pipe in place of the muffler. Don't want to screw anything up.
Phizinza
It's not back pressure you want, its a tuned exhaust. Getting the right size pipe and the right lengths of it will yield results. Oh cause most cars are made with very restrictive exhausts to some may run rough with a beautiful flowing one because they aren't tuned right for it. I've found on most < 2L cars that a 2" pipe with a straight thru turbo style muffler makes them run and sound good. But for me I want something quieter, so I'm still figuring out that.
