Best Fuel Pump for 79' Brat

Recommended Posts

I've been looking for a fuel pump for my 79' Brat.

Do any of you have any suggestion for brands or models?

I've found this one at CSK, now (or soon to be) Oreilly's

http://shop.oreillyauto.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=CTR&MfrPartNumber=P60504&PartType=52&PTSet=A

Heres what it looks like for those who don't want to hit the link

It's about $56 bucks and I can have it shipped to the nearest store for free.

Would you guys say a Subaru OEM would be better?

And also, is this where the original was located?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, its the stock hitachi.

And no, nobody put a fuel pump somewhere else, I just connected the hose

back together because I didn't know there was supposed to be a fuel pump

in that particular location.

My dad applied compressed air to the tank and that made it run, so that

means no leaks in the system, and no fuel sprayed out underneath, so the

gaskets must be good.

Thanks for the help, I'm going to pick up the one in the pictures today,

unless you guys think that would be detrimental.

Does that mean that this is in the wrong place in my '81 Brat? Its not original is it?

Here is a link to the pic

I have a tankfull of bad gas and i hoped I could turn the key on and put the other end of the fuel line in a gas can but it seems there is no power to the pump. If I were to get a replacement would it be better to mount it where that one is, or put it under the hood where wiring would be easier

thanks,

Kurt

It looks like that was the stock position, considering the bracket sitting there.

I think that under the hood would be easier for wiring if the wiring is

present in that location.

If its not, then I would just stick with the current location.

And if you want the pump I got, O'reily's might have it (They bought CSK

automotive.)

It was like 50 or so dollars, I might have posted the price in my original post.

Best of luck to ya!

So any aftermarket pump will work? even with the wiring with the safety deal from the distributor?

thanks,

Kurt
