Caramanos2000
Local autozone has the GM 100amp Alternator for around $45 with a lifetime warranty. Yay or nay? Should I not bother yet or is it a good thing to replace. EA-82 wagon with 85k miles. Not hard to swap correct, read the posts and it sounds easy enough, is it worth it? 7point62fmj
I did this, this week on my brat. My alt bracket was not the same as the write up so it did not fit very easy it kept hitting the alt body but I loosend up the bolt that the bracket bolted to the motor and it gave just enough slack. (I dont know how kosher this is but it is a pretty solid mount, I might exted the bracket a bit later to mount it right.) I was how ever able to get it to work and even used the stock belt. We will see how it holds up. The down side for me in order to swap the belt out if it brakes I will have to remove alot more bolts then just the adjustment bracket bolt. Is it worth it.. Well if you plan to do any add ons such as lights or winch or audio system I say yes and for the price you are getting the Alt, you can not beat it. I got mine 45 shipped off ebay. Caramanos2000
Well I just have a pair of driving lights for now. Should I get this or an optima battery first? Any idea were I can buy 4ga wire to put my battery in the back?
silverhelme
You should be able to buy 4ga bulk at any NAPA store ( Probably any good parts store ) but I would suggest at least 2ga to handle that kind of amperage over that distance. The 2ga is also available at NAPA but you will probably have to order it, I did.
Caramanos2000
We dont have napa. Wester auto, pep boys or autozone dont have anything bigger than 8ga. So.... lol yeah... Battery or alternator first?
7point62fmj
When do you see your self needing the extra power? If you need it when the motor is off then the extra battery is a good Idea just be aware that the stock alt was not realy made to charge two batteries. It will do it but read the write up about the install you realy dont have much amprage left after all the factory requirments are met. Dont forget to get a battery realy or Isolator, what ever your flavor is. I would get the alt first since it will meet pretty much what you want to do as long as the motor is running. Dont forget fuseable links!!
