Txakura
imagine my surprise to come around a corner to this fine gal walking across the road a few hours ago; one of those on your hood can ruin your whole day and no, 'meese' aren't common here

4x4_Welder
More like a roof ornament. Those things are like cows on stilts. I knew a guy who survived hitting one (rare), he only survived by laying down on the passenger side seat, the thing took the roof off his car. subyfreak
Did you stop to tell Bullwinkle there is no hitchhiking allowed? I recently saw my first black bear in the wild last fall. He was also looking for a ride. (Just missed him)
TheSubaruJunkie
I grew up in Alaska, & I saw so many horrrrrrrible accidents as the result of a Moose. Seemed like every week was another story about somebody being killed after hitting a moose. They stand so tall that you take their legs out when you hit them, then you have like 1200lbs of meat crushing your face.
Twitch de la Brat
It seems like we all have had our encounters with meese. My mom was hit by one in our 79' GMC Passenger van, Ya know, the old beasts that could hold like 15 people. It caved in the sliding door and dented the passenger window frame. Thankfully she had the window down at the time so it didn't shatter. It knocked the 4000lb van into the next lane. The skid marks were probably 10 feet long in total. And the cool thing is the only thing that was hurt was the moose. Oh and the door still works. Twitch

Txakura
see, if you're posting from Michigan or talking about Alaskan Mooseii, then it makes perfect sense you'd have encountered a black bear or Bullwinkle... but down here in Lower Elbonia we have wheat fields and lentils and they just don't blend in - no matter how hard they try a Moose just doesn't seem too incognito in a wheat field of course, I've seen a few over the years but generally it's the 8 million deer lunging for my bumper that I'm used to, not a cow on stilts bumbling down a road I drive twice a day I actually know a guy who hit a moose on his Yamaha FZR in Minnesota, it totalled his bike, he flew over it and did a superman in full battle rattle and was unhurt - the moose looked at him and walked off intot he woods
Greybeard
Never met a moose while I was in a car or truck, but I have met a bull while I was carrying a canoe down a trail in Canada. They are a lot bigger face to face, (if you can call that a face) I'm sure glad he was in a good mood. By the way, experience tells me that unlike black bears and other forest critters, they are not intimidated by size. I'm afraid a Subie has to come out second in any confrontation. Twitch de la Brat
Well Mr. Monstaru, it could have been a lot worse. It could have flipped the van into oncoming traffic, killed a few people and exploded in a fireball. And the moose hit the van, not visa versa Greenley. The moose was probably doing 35-40 when it hit the van and pushed it into the oncoming lane of traffic. Thankfully there were no cars in the way when she got pushed over there. Just a little splainnin. Twitch :-\
